About this site
I decided to start building a new model railway in 2009, having not attempted any sort of serious modeling since about… well I’m really not sure! This site is an attempt to document what I did, how I did it, and the eventual outcome.
Previous attempts
My first model railway was when I was a kid. I got it for Christmas and it was the normal sort of Hornby OO train set – a BR Class 58, a circle of track with a siding, and some wagons. Over the years, that expanded up, and I at one point had some rather nice big desks, topped with Plywood, and started laying out track. Unfortunately. I could never decide how I wanted it, and would frequently chop and change it. My track suffered, and operation was iffy at best. I never truly built a proper layout, although I had fun messing about with bits. I’d often pick up locos, and other bits of rolling stock. I built a few models and buildings too.
Due to the nice big space the desks offered, they often ended up piled with other rubbish, which made doing anything a bit tricky! Time passed, the whole thing was dismantled, and that was that. Ever since, the remaining trains have been living in a box in the loft. I started onto new hobbies (mostly computers) and the trains didn’t get a look in. Until now!
About me
I am David Rickard. I have a great many hobbies, mostly computing, photography, music and movies. I like to cross these things over now and then, just to make things interesting. I can now add Model Railways back to my hobby list.
